8 year old tires, car always garaged...dangerous? Posted by bender [Email] (#268) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bender) on Sun, 15 May 2016 21:08:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My Viggen has 8 year old tires. I presume when I bought them they were new too and not sitting on a shelf for years. I had bought them from Tire Rack back in 2008. The tires must have around...10k miles. The car has ALWAYS been garaged. Stored in the winters (which might not be ideal for tires...developing flat spots. Maybe). Not exposed to sunlight for a long time.
Anyhow. I really don't want to spend the money right now as I don't drive the car much, but will be taking it to a mechanic and driving about 5 hours. Am I seriously taking a risk here by waiting another year to replace them? Of course, the damage to a rare Viggen from a blown tire would be much more than simply replacing them but....
They are Dunlops SP SPORT MAXX tires.
I know the best thing to do is to just bite the bullet and get them replaced. Any feedback appreciated.
