For some reason there are many failures. Some theories are bad design or simply a weak battery causing electrical haywire. I recently bought a 2013 Altima (clean and low miles) and the transmission went bad four months later. It was still under factory powertrain warranty (5/60) so Nissan replaced it. Their CVT is otherwise praised for yielding MPG in the 30s for a 2.5L engine but it is no fun to drive.
