It was over 40 years ago now but our High School Electronics Class teacher got some WWII surplus can style capacitors which he was told were removed from tanks which were being decommissioned. Since it had been ~30 years since the war ended, he 'assumed' all charge on these capacitors had dissipated long ago.
Wrong!
He got one heck of a jolt when he grabbed one of these out of the shipping box and the palm of his hand contacted both terminals. Left burn marks on his hand for weeks.
Of course after witnessing this, the class full of us 18 year old guys had lots of fun with these when the teacher wasn't looking. Wiring them to the metal handles of the lab tables, the metal legs of the stools, etc.
Eventually they were all discharged. Just not in the safest way possible.
