We still have one sitting on the shelf as a bit of a relic. A $70 portable we got before we were married. Since the switch to digital it doesn't receive anything (hmm... ought to check). But my wife thought a lot of TV was better in black and white. Wait, and there's another in my son's room that he picked up off the street to connect his xbox to. For a while you'd see quite a few on the street on the weekends. Around here it's pretty common for people to put things that they don't want out, and a lot of it gets picked up.
We have a nice dumb HD that fits just right between the bookshelves in the 'media room', and a smart dvd player for netflix and such. I'm still amazed by the picture. We don't do cable, so there's still a bit of old-school fiddling with the flat digital tv antenna to get the game in clearly. HDMI is pretty nice -- you can play things off of a $100 tablet and the quality is pretty good.
I think the switch from tube to HD flat screen, along with dropping of analog broadcast and the rise of streaming here in the US produced a consumer technology shift we're not likely to see the likes of again.
Just as well, I have better things to spend money on.
