Buy most cars out of state - but NEVER drove one back Posted by thatbobguy [Email] (#1370) [Profile/Gallery] (more from thatbobguy) on Thu, 4 May 2017 18:04:20 In Reply to: Has anyone bought a car out of state and driven it back to MA?, turrbo [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 3 May 2017 11:07:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Wouldn't even consider more than a 50-100 mile trip in an unknown car - you could end up broke down in Deliveranceville.
UShip.com is your best friend - ignore most of the high bids and look at the drivers ratings - it can take a week or so to sift through the offers and do the haggling, but the idea of getting a car delivered like a pizza can't be beat - and there's the fun of seeing it for the FIRST TIME when it arrives!
I've paid $425 from NH to PA, $300+ from WI to PA, $800 from CA to PA - just to compare with all the TOTAL potential costs of going to get it and driving back - no plates, no gas, no repairs, no tolls, no nuthin'.
But... if you're up for a road trip and have the use of a bigass pickup with a hitch, renting a one-way UHaul tow dolly could be a fun trip (unless the car's AWD).
(P.S I had my '95 Super CS for 10 lovely yrs before it died - otherwise would still be driving it!)
