Apropos of nothing I suppose, I was reading in a trade journal, "import car" (service ),may 2017 an article about BMW v-8 engines & oil leaks. they actually have an open oil passage BEHIND an alternator bracket! ( for no apparent reason!) but isn't that the typical Teutonic thoroughness? Mayhaps Hans the engine design engineer drank too much beer? So you must CK to see if the" alternator gasket bracket gasket" is leaking( the first time I had to fix that, I'd secure a plug in it ! )! Apparently, this engine is a proverbial wellspring of potential leaks! it hemorrhages oil like a death of a thousand cuts! While you watch it exsanguinate!(bleed out ) The article advises that the best method to determine the etiology, location of leaks is to clean off the engine and use your UV light to see the fluorescent dye you added to the oil spray, leak, ooze out. (good advice that eh ? ) Now, where's that 4 foot black light bulb I had in the 70's? LOL regards, neil
