no abs, no airbags... cassette deck - ha! simple car is easier to fix.

I see the point in technology that makes the car work better. Safety features in particular, like SAHRS, good structural design, even airbags and abs/tcs (though the c900's do better for me without TCS than the 9-5 with TCS - as in safer to drive on icy roads)... the more sophisticated and active a technology is, the more risk there is of complexity induced failure, and if we become dependent on it, that's kind of bad... like the others said below about emergency braking, lane assist, etc...

I drove home this evening with the 9-5 dash lit up like a xmas tree: probably a bad connection to the ABS/TCS module, happens once in a while and means the car is without ABS. I know how to threshold brake and it is not winter (so the chances of needing to are super low).

The point is all these features are probably a great appeal to some people who buy the car new and sell when the warranty runs out (or lease), but they are a poor value for anyone planning to keep a car for a while.

Finally, for tech like built in screens etc... most of those features can be done through a smartphone or tablet, are probably un-needed, and unless the car is easily updated/upgraded, either don't matter or turn one of a family's most expensive purchases into a disposable tech gadget...

I can see the appeal of electric motors. I can't see the appeal of most of the electronic gadgetry, especially in the context of otherwise simple ICE based vehicles.
