Uh, actually I think it does!Lets look at the facts : as per Nick @Fram 800 890 2075 if the filter is longer there WILL be more filter media ( as least for Fram filters ) He did say we need to be mindful of if the bigger filter meets Oem specs for a filter EG PSI it bypasses at , anti-drain back, inlet out flow etc. they can only recommend filters that meet the OEM specs you can go onto their website compare filters but you have to use a part # for A 02' Viggen 9-3 w/ 2.3 l you can use TG3614 or TG 3600 the TG 3600 is 1.5 " longer but the sad news is it only holds a couple OUNCES more oil so not a significant amount ! we're disappointed too! PS the Fram TG3600 is cross-referenced to PureOne PL20195
Napa Gold 1516 so I doubt they are "twice as long" Fram rep ( not surprisingly, ) suggested using a" better," -like a
FRAM ULTRA SYNTHETICTM
Engineered for full Synthetic Motor Oil
Ultimate dual-layer synthetic media provides up to 20,000 miles of engine protection1
99%+ filtration efficiency2
COMPETITOR COMP PART # FRAM PART # PART
PUREONE (PUROLATOR) PL20195 PH3600 EXTRA GUARD
GROUP 7 PL20195 TG3600 TOUGH GUARD
PUROLATOR PL20195 TG3600 TOUGH GUARD
QUAKER STATE PL20195 TG3600 TOUGH GUARD Ya a Saab example of the dumb bunny was the small oil capacity they spec'd when I was talking to a Fram filter rep he joked said we could install one of the 2% bypass filters that they make/sell for diesel semi trucks they are only replaced about every 100,000 miles and hold 28 quarts! LOL
