OT: Just got first pair of prescription sun glasses Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 14 Sep 2017 14:51:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have been wearing eye glasses since grade school over 50 years ago, and started using Photo-Gray or Transition lenses while in high school.
During my recent eye appointment the Optometrist strongly recommended prescription sun glasses for use when driving or when out of doors for extended periods when sunny. He said these will slow the growth of my cataracts by blocking more UV from entering my eyes, and delay the inevitable surgery by years.
I just picked up the glasses tonight and I can only say; "WOW!"
I don't know if it is the polarization of the lenses, if the permanent tint somehow blocks more sun than a changing tint, if the Maui Jim advertising is correct and the lenses are somehow enhanced for high sun conditions, or if it is the wrap of the frame that prevents sun light from entering behind the lenses on the sides. Whatever the reason, I would have been wearing prescription sunglasses for decades if I had known they would be this much better than Photo-Gray lenses.
