OT: Best method to freeze a screw for extraction? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Mon, 2 Oct 2017 08:10:51 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Home repair project for our son.
The vinyl windows in our son's home have a few broken lift handles. I have replaced one or two handles with new, using matching #10 round head machine screws for mounting The machine screws thread into a threaded rivet/insert which is crimped into the hollow vinyl sash frame. Unfortunately, a couple screws will not back out to allow replacement of the broken handles on these windows. The entire threaded insert spins with the screw, and there is no usable collar on the insert with which to grab it to prevent its movement.
I have tried PB Blast to no avail on these screws. My next thought is to try to freeze these screws to break then loose and maybe PB blast them again.
What is the best method to freeze these? I have seen TV ads for some Wart Removal freezing aerosol spray which seem as if sit might work on such a small screw head. Is there another product with a small nozzle that can freeze screws using either Nitrogen or CO2?
Thanks,
