You have to pin it in gear. Then Secure the pin so it wont fall out. That blocks the rest of the selector rods. If its in neutral any of the other selector rods can be bumped into place and will block the others.
Its possible to fix it. Happened on a gearbox I loaned out in 2014. The pin got knocked out during transport. Never got that Quaife gearbox back.. :(
Here is a video that allowed them to fix it in the car assembled. Took buying that specific snapon tool
