I use one. I like them mainly to change the finish from glossy to matte. Cosmetically, matte doesn't show fingerprints, but I don't really care about that.
What is more important to me is that matte eliminates glare. Since I drive a convertible and use the phone for navigation (all of the time), it is simply much easier to see. On a sunny day, the reflection on the normal glass screen is pretty brutal.
I've found the gorilla glass used by Apple is really tough and does not require any screen protector. However, if you break your display and get a replacement, that is often not nearly as high in quality. My display got scratched within days of a replacement and I sure wish I had put the protector on it!
