I haven't filed my 2017 US Taxes yet but during one of several personal reviews of the data entered, I realized that I had neglected to send a contribution to my Alma Mater before December 31st.
Numerous tax items on the US returns have a last official eligibility date of either US Tax Filing Day (typically April 15th), or the date the tax payer actually files.
I had to read the entire Tax Booklet governing Charitable Donations before finding on the very last page, after all the bizarre rules affecting nearly no one, that all contributions MUST be made by December 31st of the Tax year.
Sorry alma mater. I guess it is a good thing that I made the opposite mistake in 2016 and sent you two checks!
