I was hot for a Felt a few years back. Not a fancy one, but it was still gonna be over $2,500. above what I think is reasonable. But then I got RIF'd so I looked at used bikes. I found a barely used LeMond (at a Felt dealer) for $600. New tires, Ultegra components, not a mark on the bike. Rode it 3 miles, brought it home. A few thousand miles later I still love it and it is a delight. 60 to 120 miles a week in the good weather.

Anyway.... I like Felts because they are really good bikes without all the hoopla and marketing BS that comes with mainstream brands like Specialized or Cannondale and without the absurd pricing and deeper marketing BS of the really high end rides like Pinarello or BMC.

Anyway...
IMHO no road bike should cost more than $1,000 to $1,500., unless you are a pro or semi-pro. The value just isn't there. There are a lot of bike snobs in my area who ride around on 13-lb, $8,000 to 10,000 bikes but it's like being with guys who drive exotic cars: their egos are tied to their bikes. I like keeping up with them on my old LeMond. It annoys them.

I know some bikes are labor intensive to make but even low production carbon bikes like Allieds can be built in about 12-15 hours, frame and all. Good components make a difference, mostly in durability and ease of operation, but the prices are still nuts.

A good friend buys used frames (Serrotas are a favorite) and then builds what we wants on the frame. He spends a lot more than $1500 but has deep pockets, bikes are his main hobby and he keeps them in his houses in NM and NS.
