Well, Windows 7 is getting pretty long in the tooth! I still use it on my production machines, but as far as Microsoft is concerned, they no longer really support it, but won't "officially" cut the cord until Jan. 2020. MS really only wants OS by subscription in the future: you pay to use the OS every year, same as MS Office.
It's almost never worth it to upgrade a machine's OS, as old hardware rarely works that well in the "updated" OS environment. A lot of this stuff can be pretty irrelevant, though. F'rinstance, our main Photoshop box (Win 7 Pro 64) has a high end video card that really can't take advantage of all of it's features under anything less capable than Win 10, but I haven't seen any kind of performance hit, in terms of daily usage.
