My elder daughter who has been driving the '00 9-3 SE (~265K miles) has pulled the trigger on a used Honda Fit. She gets it this week. Definitely not a Saab, but a decent small car. I'd like her in something bigger, but she likes the size, capacity and that it's a hatchback.
She's bummed that the seats are not like the Saab chairs she's had for the past 13 years, but she likes the flexible interior and 30-36 mpg-- and that it has only 66K miles on it. She got a good deal because it is a 5-speed and the dealer wanted to move the beast. Doesn't seem too bad... one non-smoking owner, service records, new tires and brakes, 60K service just done. She also snagged a 3-year warranty. She'd been thinking about a Subie but had heard too much about head gasket problems (and costs) so decided a Subie might not be a good move, at least for model years within her price range, and they all had 100k or more on them.
And while I will probably have to do some things to the Fit as they come up, my Saab herd is thinning out a bit. Her '00 was getting to be a problem, so it's OK to see it go. I think we're gonna donate the 9-3 and sell off some spares I have in the garage.
And I still have 3 Saabs, so Saab-life goes on!
