It could also be that the tariff slays used car prices. People often buy new cars when they perceive the cost of keeping the old car running exceeds it's value. If the work your car needs goes up, you might choose to replace it with new... even if new is more expensive. If nothing else, you can finance the new purchase.
Also, with new car prices generally going up, there is an increasing push and acceptance of the "car as a service" concept. If you can just spend $x/mo for a car, and stop any time you'd like with no costs beyond gas and no approval process, keeping the old car alive may become even less attractive.
Not sure what it might mean, just some thoughts.
