Neil started this conversation out with what an exciting car to drive was the new Alpha Romero Quadrifoglio. Somewhere along in this conversation comparisons were being made between the Alpha and Saab; so let's make a "fair" comparison. Let's compare the 1987 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible 5 speed to the 1987 Alpha Romero Quadrifoglio Convertible 5 speed. The Alpha had a 2 litre (120 cu.in.), 115 hp, 119 lb torque. The Saab had the same 2 litre engine, with 158 hp. and 188 lb torque. I agree with one of the guys that said, "the reason sales are down on the Alpha is that "everyone that wants one, has one".
I enjoy my Saab 900 vintage Saab (almost 30 years old) and yes, like most "Saabers" I am "upside down" in the amount of money that I have invested in my Saab compared to what my Saab is actually worth. I do not consider my Saab an investment. I enjoy all the DIY time I spend working on my Saab, which is something you will never be able to do with that Alpha.
Apples & Oranges comes to mind.
