Something about GM doesn't endear empathy. I get that. But these endless Saab articles about it's all GM's fault simply don't comport with reality.
As several have noted, GM likely significantly added to Saab's lifetime. The original Saab, which is very much alive today making airplanes and defense equipment, got tired of losing money making cars in 1969. Saab Auto had several owners after that, every one of which lost money.
GM did some dumb things (Trolblazer, etc), but they also made more than a few things about Saab better. Saab's highest sales were under GM. My 2008 9-3 is a significantly more reliable car that earlier versions of the 9-3 (or 900) were.
I've owned 3 Saabs. They make me smile. But honest reality will tell you that making Saab cars into a profitable & sustainable endeavor was something that nobody (and no company) ever showed skill at.
That article is just painful cliche, and much of it nonsense.
