SAAB teamed up with Boeing and won the contract to supply the USAF’s new two-seat trainer aircraft, the T-X (the number to replace the X is still TBD).
The new aircraft will replace the venerable T-38 (based on Northrop’s F-5 design from the 1950s). Both the T-38 and T-X have low supersonic capabilities.
Around 350 ships are planned, and fabrication will be in West Lafayette, IN with some level of cooperation from Purdue. If your college-age kid is interested in a career in aerospace, there’s an opportunity.
