I injured them both badly when I was a kid by falling from second story and landing on my feet. I'm lucky I didn't break a leg or my back. I still have chronic lower back issues from the fall. Eventually, scar tissue was building up on both achilles and I quit running competitively during my senior year of cross-country and went back to ice hockey which has never bothered my achilles. However, the achilles kept slowly getting worse and more painful, so I finally had surgery on both of them to abrade off the scar tissue and repair two minor tears. The surgery was a complete success and I'm now pain free and can even run again. Sometimes it is easy to tweak my achilles, so I don't know just how much running I can do. I'll stick to ice hockey 4X week if the damn tendinitis in my elbow would go away and stay away, but I'd like to add 2 mile runs in there somewhere on the off days...
I had tried the heel lifts a long time ago, but it didn't help probably because it was a scar tissue issue...
