It could theoreticly be imported here if you were a bit sneaky .
I was going to import some of these
small pick up trucks which are actually based on the old Ford Festiva cars which was sold here circa 1986-1989 ? It was designed by Mazda and made by KIA IN kOREA (which makes it one of the oldest designs still in production! )
I had contacted the manufacturer who was a bit surprised as you could imagine that an American would want to buy and import a quantity of these trucks . this is because they are NOW made in IRAN !
Well,SADLY our government has banned us from doing any buisness w/ Iran ! even IF It makes sense ! I could have sold them ( and made a profit ) for less than 8K $ each !

I was also actually negotiating to import the Tata Nano which at less than $2k ( in India ) was the worlds cheapest car . I could get a container shipped here fr india for 2K $ w/ 2 inside !

|The way I was going to be able to import and sell these vehicles was by fitting a simple throttle stop so they could not exceed 35 MPH ! that way they would qualify under the Fedral Low Speed Vehicle Exemption catagory FLSV ? ( yes, like a golf cart ! ) those vehicles are EXEMPT fr any safety or emissions rules ! HA HA! Yes ! it's true ! and yes the feds told me it would be totally legal !
( Now if someone removes the throttle stop it is NOT my fault ! )

So, if you could do the same w/a NEVS you could legally import it and well, hell yes ! it would be MUCH safer than a golf cart ! LOL maybe show some photos w/ the doors removed and a rack in the( removed trunk lid )back for 4 golf club bags in it say it is a deluxe golf cart ! LOL
