I don't have a Saab yet, though I am salivating at the thought of a 9-5 Aero Wagon. Hopefully next Spring (;

You owe it to yourself if you are seeking a fun car to drive an Aero! If you can afford it, the grin factor alone will keep you happy for a long time. It is available with an auto or a manual. They call this engine HOT (for High Output Turbo) and it certainly is!

I recently test drove a 2000 Aero Wagon, and afterwards the dealer offered it to me at $7000 USD under MSRP, which was well under invoice. I think that if I had wanted that particular car, he would have taken less. So you can save a heck of a lot on a 2000. It will probably be this time next year before you can find similar savings on a 2001 model.

I have my doubts about the OnStar. It depends on analog cell phone coverage to function. If your phone won't work, neither will the OnStar. This is a major point for me, since I travel isolated back roads where my phone is useless. I am still waiting for OnStar to send me a coverage map for WA - perhaps you should ask for one for NC. BTW, they do NOT address this coverage issue on their website! If you drive in marginally covered areas, it would not be a smart feature to get. It is $200 per year for basic service, $400 for the works.

Good luck in making your decision, and let us know what happens.
