Saab vs BMW......two totally different experiences!!! Posted by Paul [Email] (#792) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Paul) on Sat, 28 Oct 2000 20:40:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I read alot of postings comparing Saab and BMW and while I have never driven a BMW I can say that a Saab is a very quirky but thoroughly enjoyable driving experience. Quirky, you say? I dont mean that in a bad way at all, I mean you cant just drive it like any other car. How many times have we seen some guy in a BMW fly off from the lights, foot to the floor? Try that in a Saab Turbo and you are left scrambling for grip - you will catch up with the guy once you hit second/third gear anyway so it doesnt matter - with the steering wheel writhing around in your sweaty little hands. Saabs are GREAT to drive up in mountain passes, accelerating on the straights and slowing down to take the hairpin , shifting down a gear and coming out the hairpin in the right gear to blast your way into the next bit of straight road. A Saab can be a different car to different people, its an economical 2litre 4cylinder car around town and a sports car up in the mountains or on the highway. Folks who have never been in a Saab comment on the 'slingshot effect' of the turbo but its the driver who gets all the fun. I guess what Im really trying to say is that a BMW is a 'preprogrammed idiot-proof car' whereas the Saab has its little idiosyncracies that make it a car that the idiot should avoid.
