After all that work, and then the evil white residue shows up - frustrating!! Others have posted that peanut oil is good to restore the natural color. As far as my search for the perfect wax? I'm now a happy user of Zano Brothers - great system. I cut corners and just ordered the wax the first time, and then sent for the balance of the recommended goodies, after I was so pleased with the results. Check out the Zano Brothers site, for about 50-75$, you can get all you need to take good care of your car for 2-3 years. This wax also is safe to hit the plastics & rubber with, very easy to apply. (The first time you use it, plan on taking a full day to apply. Normal application after that...)
I heard about Zano from researching the Audi, BMW, Volvo & of course - this great board!! Low to medium cost solution to the wax question.
(Actually - they say it is not actually a wax) (Note: it might be Zaino?)
Best of luck,
9-5 Smitty
