Why are SAAB's color choices so bland? Posted by JimD [Email] (#3047) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JimD) on Mon, 6 Nov 2000 14:38:37 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm fairly new to the board, and am just starting to look for my first SAAB (a 9-3 base, or possibly a 98 NG900). Hope to get one during 2001.
In looking at the 2001 color selections, and checking some cars out at the dealer, I was disappointed to see that the number of choices is seemimgly down from last year (Scarabe Green gone, and not replaced with another choice). "Imola Red" replaced with "Laser Red". But unless you parked the two together, you'd never really know it was a "new" color. It looks fine, it's still just bright red. "Frost Gray" replaced by "Steel Gray". Nice color for those who like gray, but I actually preferred the Frost Gray. I really miss Cayenne Red and even the Green-Silver. The "Sun Green" is just too pale for me. I also really liked the bright blue and yellow Viggens too. But, at least to my eyes, the current color selections are rather bland.
It seems that, where I live, nearly every SAAB I see is either silver or black. Is this because SAAB owners tend to be a conservative bunch? Have the livelier colors offered in the past ended up not selling? Just curious. I'm not saying color is the most important factor when purchasing a car, but it would sure be nice to see SAAB be more inventive in this area. Same for the interior. Charcol is fine, but the sand beige is so light it's tough to keep clean, especially the cloth (which already looks a little "low rent" for a car in the SAAB's price range anyway).
I wish SAAB would consider offering some colors, inside and out, that were as unique and distinctive as their cars. I seem to recall they had some distinctive color choices in the days of the Classic 900, but not any more.
Just my 2-cents.
