Would you want a 4-point seat belt in your car? I was just checking out what is going to be at the 2001 NAIAS. Volvo is going to be introducing the 4-point seat belt, and they are testing two versions of it at the 2001 North American International Auto Show in Detroit from January 8-21. The people at the show will be able to sit in a prototype SCC car and try out both designs. One is a crisscross style belt in the back seat (shown in the picture), and the other is center buckle rally/racing style in the front seat (shown in the picture). Volvo is going to pick which one based on lots of customer feedback/research. The safety concept car (SCC) car also has some other stuff like a clear A-pillar (for better forward vision), two-way communication heartbeat sensor (determines the level of stress of the driver), and adaptive drivers environment (reads the position of the driver's eyes and changes the position of the mirrors, seat, steering, pedals, floorboard, and seatbelt for optimal road view). Volvo is also going to show a preview of their new V90 Hybrid-SUV at the show. The seatbelt thing looks pretty darn uncomfortable to me (back seat one especially). I am not sure how much all that electronics safety stuff is going to work. It is interesting info, none-the-less. Anyone going to the NAIAS by the way?
