Lubed bolt vs. dry bolt; reduce torque 20-25%..... Oil or anti-seize on the lug bolt threads is a good idea to prevent seizing and thread damage. Anti-seize on the hub is a MUST to prevent the rim from seizing to the hub due to rust.
A lubricated bolt should be torqued approx. 20-25% less than a dry bolt. So IF the dry lug bolt was speced at 90 ft-lb, then an anti-seize coated bolt would be torqed at 68-72 ft-lb. That is a lubricated bolt will require less torque to provide the same clamping force.
According to my reference tables; the recommended torque for a 1/2-13 grade 8 bolt is 86-119 ft-lb dry and 65-89 ft-lb lubricated.
Now the real question is what does SAAB recommend as the torque for the lug bolts and is it for dry or lubricated lug bolts? I seem to remember that the SAAB maintenance manual recommends a few drops of oil on the lug bolts. In that case the torque would be about the same for oiled lug bolts or anti-seize coated lug bolts.
Anybody out there with the information, does SAAB spec lubed or dry torque for the lug bolts?
