The 996's aren't even Porsches. The truest of the true Porsche fans will steer you away from them. Porsche finally perfected the 911 with the 993 twin turbo 4wd in 1997, then they had to go and screw it up. The air cooled engine was murdered by it's own ascendents. Shame on Porsche. If you liked that car, try an older, say 1993 or 1994 base model 993 if you can afford it. They are actually pretty reasonable, and can be had in decent condition from 25-35K. Worth every damn penny and ounce of blood sweat and tears, financial hardship too if you ask me. At least take one for a drive.
