I had an incident about 2 1/2 years ago with a Mazda that I owned. The State Farm claims agent insisted I use a "comparable" replacement part (in my case, the front passenger side fender) instead of the genuine Mazda one.

I threw a fit over them not using the Mazda part! I could understand if it was my fault, but it was THEIR CLIENT who hit me! I didn't ask to be hit! It made me so mad, that I complained to just about everyone I could get a hold of at State Farm. The Claims agent stuck to her guns and WOULD NOT put the Mazda fender on, even at the recommendation of the body shop. The body shop was backing me up, because they said that they, "hated working with junk parts.." -- the funny part was that that Mazda fender was only twenty some dollars more than the replacement part -- it would have still cost less than $200!

I had no choice but to put the replacement fender on. It did not align properly with the rest of the cars body (though the body shop did the best they could - and the paint matched great). I refused to take delivery of the car, so the body shop called the claims agent, she sent a person to look at the misalignment of the body panels. After about a 5 minute review, he said, "put the Mazda fender on" and left.

Let me sum this up: they ended up paying for the repair twice! All over about $20 on the difference of the Mazda fender versus the replacement fender. What a way to run a business!

I will NEVER use State Farm. I have heard that they got in trouble for such tactics lately, however I still wouldn't in a million years use them. I didn't like them either because they do their own estimates. I think that is crap. My insurance company, KY Farm Bureau, allows you to get to estimates at the shop(s) of your choice, and they go with the lesser.

I didn't mean this to scare you, by the sounds of the other posts, you may not have any problems, but I do not like State Farm at all
