Hope that subject line got your attention. I continue to be amazed that I bought a SAAB considering what a German car fanatic I am. I have had several VWs and I was convinced that my next car would be a Passat, Audi, or BMW. And without going into the various reasons I went with SAAb, let me sum it up: The SAAB was more German-like than the others. What I mean is, the SAAB reminded me more of the German cars I grew up loving in Boulder Colo in the late 70s and early 80s. Back then, BMWs and Audis were very much like SAABs...a little different...economic luxury. But now Audi and BMW have gone so upscale that you can hardly tell them from a Lexus. In fact, the new 3 series has "softer" steering to accomodate city driving. HAve you ever noticed how rare manual transmissions and cloth is on BMws and Audis? I guess what I'm saying is that even if SAAB has gone upscale too, they have remained closer to their origin. I believe BMWs are great cars but they are over loaded with stuff and are very expensive now. My favorite BMWs are those from the 70s and 80s. Isn't the 2002 really the ultimate SAAB-like BMW? It's like ROnal Reagan said about the fact that he was once a Democrat, "I didn't leave the Democratic party, it left me." Samw with the Germans. They are the ones that changed for the sake of competing with Benz and Lexus. I'd buy a stripped down 325i in a flash but I won't spend $35K+ for a 3 series. Josh
