Hmmm. Well, I'm single, so big space for "4" is not a huge concern. So my choices would be different than folks who need a 4-door for the family. I prefer a coupe and, even though I have an old pick-up to haul things around in, I do appreciate the hatch as well. I wouldn't really want a wagon. So, there wouldn't be much out there, not when talking new cars available at the moment. I hope to get a 9-3 base coupe during 2001, so I'd have that to keep for a long time. But, we're talking about SAAB being out of the picture.

Like you, if SAAB were gone, I'd most likely return to a former brand I've owned, also VW, and go with a GTI VR6. A very nice car, one I'd probably be happy with. Possibly, the new Mercedes C-Class Hatchback, though I'm not sure I'd be willimg to pay their asking price for it. The nw A4 looks to be a very nice car, and I've read that Audi will offer an A4 coupe at some point. Too bad they don't offer the A3 in the USA. Possibly something from Alfa (also a former brand I've owned) depending on what models they bring back to the USA. I do not see myself in a BMW, unless the rumored revival of the retro "2002" model appears. That might tempt me, even with no hatch. Maybe I'd even look at a new "Mini"(yes I know they are owned by BMW)! Having seen some preview articles, it looks like a fun ride. But for sentimental reasons, I'd probably seek out a 92 or 93 Classic 900 Turbo and plan on keeping it, just for old time's sake. I had an 88, which was my first (and only)SAAB to date.
