I work for Saturn so I'll admit I'm a bit biased, but I would probably get a Saturn L-Series.

For around $20 grand, you get a decent car based on the Vectra platform (same as 9-5 and 9-3 basis), the 180+ hp 3.0L V6 (without turbo) on a vehicle sized somewhere between the 9-3 and the 9-5 and lighter than the 9-5. I would get the side-curtain airbags, ABS/Traction Control, the kick-ass Advanced Audio system with CD and cassette, maybe buy some used Saab wheels which fit exactly (as a tribute to Saab), and I could blow away many high-brow cars at the stoplight. If I wanted to get serious, I could get stiffer springs.

I would miss little things like the weather band, analog clock, midflaps, trip computer, and hatchback (can't do a wagon as I'm single). I would also get lower fuel economy than my 1997 2.3L 900S and I would have a smaller fuel tank in the Saturn.

I actually considered getting a Saturn when my lease ended but the great price on my Saab ended up saving me money compared to a new Saturn L.
