Actually I don't own a Saab, right now I'm in a '92 Saturn coupe. 155,000 miles of near flawless performance. Awesome car. I'm doing my time in that so I can afford a 9-3 vector next summer.
To me the advantages of RWD for handling aren't terribly great for everyday driving. I'm sure that the 9-3 balance and handling will be excellent. As good as a BMW? Maybe not, but that's not what I'm looking for. If it was I'd be shopping the 325.
I love the turbo 4, I just won't say that it's inherently better than any other design. I like it's combination of power, small size, good fuel economy, and with those balance shafts they can manage to make it quite smooth too. BMW's inline 6 is awesome, the Nissan 3.5l V6 is great also. Three distinctly different approaches, all successful. It's just a matter of how highly you rank the other factors, like poor weather handling, interior and trunk room, etc.
