Yeah, yeah, the old cars were better...I've had a '76 99 model, still have an '83 C900 8V, an NG900 V-6, and a Viggen. The old cars really were tanks. The metal was substantial, and you could actually have small accidents with not to much $ damage. My C900 is at 225K miles and the body is slowly falling apart. The dash is cracked and I had it re-upholstered at 180K. It's had three heater valves installed and a tranny re-build at 160K. No problem with clutches in general. I would not say the early cars were particularly reliable, compared to modern Japanese beaters. The two early cars had terrific handling, with modern tires.

The NG900 has had some trouble, starting at 50K. Ominous, but ok so far. Lousy handling, but better ride.

The Viggen is too new to comment on reliability. Lousy handling.

As for safety, I had a crash in its predecessor at 140mph (last thing I saw), through a chain link fence, rolling through a field, then bouncing backward off a power pole. Totally demolished back end. The the combination of auto-tensed seat belts, headrest mechanism, and roll cage protected me better than I think the C900 could.

The 93 and NG900 have very soft body sections in front and behind the cage. The car just gives itself up to protect the occupants in the case of even a moderate wreck. The C900 is far stiffer, and while it survives lesser wrecks pretty well, this is to the disadvantage of occupants in a major wreck.

I hope the new 93 has the best of all virtues.
