My 12 year old 900 has been exceptionally reliable. I also change the oil every 90 days, even if it's only 1,800 or 2,000 mi. To avoid running a dry engine, I pour about 12 oz. of oil into the filter.

I might get a new car this upcoming model year. I heard they now recommend every 10,000 mi. This seems too infrequent. I was thinking of extending it to every 5,000 and using synthetic after the first 5-7,000 mi on regular oil. Is this foolhardy? Or should it stick with the oil fashion 90 day interval and conventional oil.
