I have used both the hand-applied and the washer mix. Used the hand-applied for years, now just use the pre-mixed. Both work great. I was skeptical about the mixed stuff but it seems fine.
I use it in my almost dead Chevy truck, my wife's Exploder and my C900.
The truck has old pitted glass and Rain-X still does fine. Actually seems to make the old glass better in rain.
There does seem to be a bit more chatter on the Exploder, but it comes and goes. More noticeable when the blades are old, but it does chatter some. No dangerous, though.
The C900 has a new windshield and I used Rain-X on it almost immediately. It took few uses to get a coating on, then it is fine. Occasional chatter, but no more than with any other fluid.
Something I really like is that it makes scrapping ice and snow off much easier, and since the mix gets on the wiper blade frames they don't ice up as much. I use winter blades anyway, but it is still a big improvement.
Where it doesn't make much difference is on the rear glass on the Exploder.
No paint staining issues that I notice, but the truck is black (and fugly), the Exploder a metallic red and the Saab is beige (no clearcoat).
Sorry to be long on this.
