Your pictures pretty much prove my point. They ALL have the same essential shape. If it looks like a wagon, it's shaped like a wagon and it functions as a wagon, it's a wagon. Look at the difference in proportions between a 60's Olds 88 and a modern MB or Audi and yet we call them all "sedans" because they have the same essential three box shape. It's the same for coupes and the same for pickups. The distinctions you are talking about are simply marketing. As an example, for years the Outback was basically a Legacy wagon with a lift, big tires and wheel arch trim. The Outback sold 20 to one against the Legacy. There are both wagons--the same car actually. Most manufacturers don't even bother with a "wagon" distinction, they just sell them all as "sport utes". There's a lot of different kinds and colors, but apples are apples.
