They have been cheaper.
There was a promotional deal on leases when they debuted for $130 to $170/mo depending on your situation. They rocketed up to almost $300/mo followed, and are back down after BMW revised the residuals. I think you can still work a deal for $180 or $190/mo, but I don't have the numbers in front of me.
I like the i3 and we considered it as a replacement for the Fiat 500e we leased. Just not *sold* on it, as we're kind of holding our breath for "next generation" EVs like the 3 and the Bolt. No, not new technology just more batteries and more range. The i3 is based on last generation design guidelines, and REX model is a joke. Carry around a generator all the time to net 20 extra miles. *Really??*
In a vacuum it's a nice drive, a nice size, and I like its Total Recall futurecar looks (in the right color, anyway). Just not quite sure that even at $200/mo it'd be worth it. It was a non-starter at $250+.
