some things better some things worse. Newer models have more galvinization of the metal... which means the paint adheres worse, but when the paint fails, they rust slower... can go a while with no paint at all!
Not sure about BMW, but that is true of SAAB, Volvo, and Audi.
The old 900 and 9000 models had a tenacious primer. As long as that was intact, they did not rust. But stuff happens still.
With any car, if you want to keep the body rust free in the salt belt, you need oil spray. Which reminds me, I've got 3 cars to do before winter!
I still find the european manufacturers make cars that are more refined than the domestic and asian ones... asian ones especially copycat, but it's never quite right... the veneer is thicker than it used to be, but there is still a difference, even if the euro brands have cost cut... It is easier to get things right by taking away/simplifying/reducing rather than by adding/copying...
