It was easy for De Nysschen to talk about not wanting to focus on volume when sales had fallen to what they were. They were already well off record levels even before he became Cadillac's president in mid-2014. Even though Cadillac's US sales were actually up slightly in 2015, they were still HALF the brand's 1978 peak. Meanwhile, import brands like Acura, Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz each outsold Cadillac here. Three of them significantly so.

However, given all of the new models Cadillac is rumored to have in the works (including smaller/lower level entry models than exist today) I think volume will indeed be a notable factor going forward. Cadillac's plans look to be taking the brand as much or more down market as up market and higher volume has to be a desired part of that picture.
