Yes, it snows where I live. RWD with manual transmission and winter tires is by far my preferred method of travel on snowy roads.
My father requires a medical procedure every other day that he cannot miss. Unfortunately, his transportation service does not do snow. They literally don't show up and then I have to go and drive him. In any kind of weather, no exceptions. He lives about an hour away, too. I few years ago we had a few really snowy winters. My favorite car for this? My RWD BMW 550i. The engine and the manual gearbox are so smooth that it is trivial to drive even on sheer ice. I enjoy the feeling of control I have with the rear wheels able to steer me out of a skid. In general, the car has tremendous traction with the Hakkas I run on it in winter. The ESP is fantastic at helping me stay on the road.
All my RWD BMWs have been tremendously enjoyable to drive in icy, snowy roads. I have also owned 5 Subarus, 3 with AWD, 1 with 4WD. All were extremely unstable and difficult to drive on icy roads. I would generally prefer to drive my SAABs in bad snow storms because they were so much easier to control.
And the rest of the year, when roads are not slippery, the RWD provides much more fun and enjoyment. I once bought an AWD BMW and sold it because it was nowhere near as good as the RWD version.
