It's not just about being a transition year, it's that there is a notable delay/gap between end of 2017 production and the introduction/availability of the new 2018 Regals. Accords, Camrys, etc. would see a sales dip too if only diminishing inventories of old style 2017s were available and absolutely no 2018s. The 2018 Accord was redesigned but it's been out for around two months. Since there are still no 2018 Regals on lots yet and only limited 2017s, to compare or assess its sales right now doesn't make sense. It would be more logical to wait a few months when Regal has "full availability" and then evaluate.
