Well if you look at the sales nos in the US market - I see Regal in 2011, when I think they released a refreshed version - it sold 40k , ever since then the numbers have declined, you would think that after the refresh it would have sold well for 2 or 3 yrs, but no steep droops in sales nos.
Now take a look at Camry and Accord in the same time period, they are selling 300k and 400k cars a year in the US market, I highly doubt a refreshed 2018 Buick Regal will sell 50k units .
Honda and Toyota pull off the transition yrs and they don't wait 7 yrs for a model refresh, the Regal by most definitions is an also ran in it's class, it will be hard pressed to compete with the new designs of Accord and Camry. And the reviews I've read question Regal's pricing for an entry level model $27k .
Buick is putting it's emphasis on SUVs and CUVs where they have competitive offerings and that is a smart strategy, in the US market few would care if the Regal just went away, most buyers opt for the LaCrosse if they want a Buick sedan.
