Have there really been many substantial safety improvements to the chassis of most cars compared to the last SAABs over the last decade? Most of what I am seeing are technological safety features: lane departure warnings, automatic braking, more airbags, active head rests, that sort of thing. I know many brands' cars have vastly improved structurally today vs where they were at in 2000, but have they significantly improved structurally compared to where SAAB was at in 2000 (9-5/9-3ss)? SAAB was way ahead of the curve at that time.
Personally, I don't really want many of those active safety features. I have an engineering background, so I am aware of the immense possibilities of active control of vehicles, but I also understand the risks involved if all possible failure modes are not carefully considered and designed to be benign/graceful. Look at the Boeing 737 max 8 issues as an example!
That Yukon XL is *huge*. It is true one can get used to driving anything, but do you want to? We had an Acadia for about a month once. I was able to drive it, and got used to doing so, but I never liked it. Just too big. Was refreshing to come back and take the 1993 c900 out for a spin! TBH, I find the og9-5 to be as big as I would want.
