My now defunct Saab dealer would come out and tell me our 9-5 was coming due for brakes. He said they were down to 6mm. Well, I know I declined, givne that 6mm about 1/2 worn, and several thousand miles from needing replacement. So I looked that weekend and saw more like 8mm of pad left.
Then 5,000 miles later he sang the same song. Now I was at 4mm--almost worn out!! No thanks, I said. I was actually at about 6mm.
I was born at night, but it wasn't last night.
When a dealer or indy tells you something needs replacing, always visually verify unless they are totally trustworthy. And know what makes sense and doesn't.
