Thanks for your concern and warning; I hadn't given a lot of thought to the issue of potential pre-ignition knock when NOT under boost and probably should. Therefore, my next mod will be to run the LED wire for the knock sensor to my dashboard. From the test procedure outlined in Bentley, the knock sensor should register pre-ignition knock whether under boost or not and the LED will let me monitor that. If I see knock under no or low boost conditions, I'll retune and back the timing off until it goes away.
Between the turbo-lag, the stagnant low gear in my autobox, and the weight of my vert, start off is very sluggish. This mod made a world of difference. Hopefully, the LED will tell me I'm safe at 20 degrees and I can continue to enjoy it. Thanks for the advice, I'll be careful.
I'm at least a little curious about your caution. I think I've read through several hundred posts on the topic (scanning the complete posting history of anyone who's provided meaningful comment on the AID or MSD-BTM,then reading all of their input) and as I recall, you're the only one that raised the red flag and no one else reported this concern. Nevertheless, its simple enough to monitor the situation, so thanks again.
