The cam sprockets are held to the end of the cams with a single bolt in the center. There is an indexing keyway in the sprocket, so it goes onto the cam at the correct 'angle'.
You will see a tick mark on each cam sprocket that corresponds to a 'notch' marking cast into both far left cam bearing caps. When re-assembling with the new cams, you have to put the crank at TDC (by looking at flywheel), and you have to install the cams at the corresponding 'TDC', which happens when the tick marks on the sprockets and the notches in the bearing caps line up.
After taking out the tensioner, if you just unbolt the sprockets from the cams, and lift the cams out, the chain and sprockets will just fall slack and you'll lose the timing, where the crank chain and cam sprockets have the right length of chain between them so the cams are timed right.
This is an easy way to not have to worry about re-timing the cams to the crank if you're not replacing the chain.
Pic is not a Saab engine, but serves exactly the same purpose. You could accomplish the same thing with a twist tie, a piece of wire, just something to hold the chain to the correct teeth on the sprocket so when you go to reassemble everything is lined up already. Makes a job that can take an hour take 20 mins if you can get all the cam cover bolts out fast.
