I have heard of people having issues with MAP's, but I've never seen it. It's a piezo, which are perfectly durable, but maybe there's some temperature compensation circuit in there that can fail.
Boost being pulled back indicates either the ECU hasn't adapted to the components or its pinging or misfiring. Could be bad gas. New plugs doesn't mean good plugs, hairline cracks in the insulator are not out of the question for example.
