This response, for anyone reading, is really for an '84 900T.
If you peel back the carpeting in the trunk (by the taillights), you will gain access to the entire taillight assembly. There are two push tabs on the sides that will easily remove the entire assembly (be careful when pulling it out not to crack the bulbs).
Follow the black ground wire from the connector to where it connects to the assembly and then continue on to the circuit trace. The circuit trace has relatively thick metal, but tends to corrode due to the continuous use of the tail lights (running lights).
From here you have two options:
1) Some people have had success simply drilling a small hole in the ground trace, then attaching a new wire to a screw (with a washer) into the newly drilled hole, and attaching the other end of the wire to the body (There are several other screws back in that general area that will be available as a ground). To snap the assembly back in with the new wire attached, run the new wire on top of one the rounded grooves on the bottom of the assembly.
2) My prefered method is the same as step 1 above, except I solder the connection to the trace (after scraping the trace rough with sandpaper). I also splice another ground from the connector itself to the new ground location of choice (Since the right side taillight actually "piggybacks" several of the same wires from the left).

Give me a call if this doesn't make sense (or bring the 900 over and we can probably fix it in 30 min or so).

How is it otherwise?
As you may have guessed, I've got to have something to tinker with, and my attention has refocused (somewhat obsessively) on my Sonett V4.
I'm thinking about welding a new floor pan, rocker panels, repainting, and redoing the interior. Then I'll probably focus on some performance upgrades...
